DECODEV is a development and integration platform designed to help engineers, developers and experienced system integrators work with compatible electric vehicle battery packs outside their original vehicle application.

Modern EV batteries are sophisticated systems incorporating their own Battery Management System (BMS), monitoring, protection and communications.

DECODEV provides an interface for developers wanting to communicate with and integrate supported EV battery packs into their own experimental or custom energy-storage systems.

Designed for Development

DECODEV is supplied as a development and integration product, rather than a complete battery energy storage system.

It provides the hardware and communications interface required to work with supported EV batteries, allowing developers to build and test their own integrations with compatible equipment.

Proven Development Platform

DECODEV isn’t simply a theoretical project. The platform has undergone extensive real-world development and testing with EV battery packs and has been used in experimental stacked configurations representing up to 700kWh of total battery storage capacity. This testing has helped develop DECODEV into a flexible platform for exploring everything from individual EV battery integrations through to significantly larger experimental energy-storage systems.

BYD Battery Integration

DECODEV has currently been developed extensively around compatible BYD battery platforms. The system interfaces with the battery’s communications and relevant electrical connections, allowing developers to utilise the original battery and its integrated electronics as part of their own system design. Support for specific battery models, firmware versions and inverter combinations should always be confirmed before commencing a project.

Build Your Own System

DECODEV gives developers a starting point for creating their own EV battery integration.

Depending on the project, additional equipment may include:

• Compatible EV battery pack
• Suitable inverter or power conversion equipment
• DC protection and isolation equipment
• Contactors and safety systems
• Monitoring and control equipment
• Appropriate cabling and connectors

The final system architecture, protection, compliance and suitability remain the responsibility of the person or organisation designing and commissioning the complete system.

EV batteries can retain substantial usable capacity even after they are no longer required for their original automotive application.

DECODEV provides developers with a platform for investigating how these batteries can be repurposed rather than immediately dismantled or discarded.
